2. How common is Alzheimer's disease?

Currently, it is generally acknowledged that Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia in people older than 65 years, and the typical core symptom of AD is the loss of episodic memory. The epidemiological studies showed every 1 out of 8 elderly people who are 65 years or older suffered this disease, and nearly half of people aged 85 years or older have AD.

People who are younger than 65 years can also have AD, which is called early onset Alzheimer's disease (EOAD).
